As you know, I will be saying goodbye to the congregation in July; as you may not know, one of my part time positions is as a ghost tour guide! I have the pleasure and the privilege to organise a walk for charity - so I am happy to invite you to a private 90 minute tour of the old Carleton County Jail (Now the Jail Hostel) where I will share the secret tales of the spirits that are contained within!

Tickets are by donation with a recommendation of $20 for adults and $10 for children. You can donate cash or online (fees apply). Please don't let finances hold you back - I already have other religious education colleagues who have pledged to donate to cover some spots on the tour for those who may not be able to donate any funds at this time. (Feel free to pay for a pass-it-on ticket if you like also!)
All proceeds are going to support LREDA the liberal religious educators association. They have supported and continue to support me and other religious educators in many many ways, from education opportunities to pastoral support and advocacy for our profession. Click here to find out more. A huge thank-you to all the staff at The Haunted Walk of Ottawa for giving me permission to collect all the funds from this tour to pass on to my chosen charity. They are a fantastic bunch to work with!

Some hints, tips, and warnings for the tour!

  • We will start at the Haunted Walk ticket office on Spark Street (46 1/2 to be exact)-  just a couple of doors down from the USC headquarters!

  • Please arrive at least15 minutes before the tour start time!!

  • The tour has some mature content, talk of executions, suicide, and scary stories. The tour is not recommended for those under 10 years of age.

  • The tour has walking and stairs involved. We walk from Spark Street to The Jail (750m one way) and we will have four flights of stairs to climb inside. It is possible to take a partial tour with no/few stairs by waiting in the courtyard as we go inside (I can fill you in on our way home). You can always live vicariously through others by choosing the "pass-it-on" option.

  • It does get hot inside the jail so bring a bottle of water!

  • Any other questions email me! DRE@FirstUO.ca

Looking forward to scaring you all in the old jail and hopefully raising lots of funding for the future of UU religious educators everywhere!
Blessings, health and spoooooky stories,
Liz

This event is open to members and friends of First Unitarian first and then will be opened up to other friends in the area.
It is arranged by Liz Roper herself to raise money personally for LREDA, and done with the support of The Haunted Walk. The Haunted Walk offer the opportunity for their guides to organise tours where 100% of the proceeds can go to charities of their choice.
